6 free agents who would love playing with Eagles QB Jalen Hurts
Is there any possibility that the Eagles have been keeping up with Da’Shawn Hand?
At some point, any good football player has thought about playing pro ball in the city they grew up in (if there’s a team there). Well, that doesn’t necessarily apply to Da’Shawn Hand. He was born in Philly, but his family moved to Virginia shortly thereafter. You get the idea though right? This would be one of those coming home stories… kind of, and again, there’s nothing wrong with one of those.
Any team that’s doing their due diligence in roster-building isn’t just snatching up the high-profile targets. They’re also checking out other teams’ practice squads in hopes of landing that guy that can be brought along with the proper guidance and coaching.
A former fourth-round choice by the Detroit Lions in 2018, Hand has had an unenviable journey. We already know the Lions are a mess of a franchise, so winding up on the injured reserve and being cut by one of football’s snake-bitten franchises has to hurt. He was a part of the Pro Football Writers of America’s All-Rookie Team in 2018 though, so there has to be some talent there.
Following his dismissal in the Motor City, Hand landed a spot on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad in December of 2021 before being released ten days later and finding his way to the Tennessee Titans’ scout team on January 5th. He was also a teammate of Hurts’ at Alabama.
Look, don’t read what isn’t being written. We should all be about 95 percent certain that Hand won’t be on this Eagles roster in 2022, but the point here is, if the Birds get creative, they can find help at the EDGE position, and they don’t have to break the bank doing so.
Who knows? This could be one of those diamonds in the rough. Eagles defensive line coach Tracy Rocker could be the man to pull the magic out of him.
