The Eagles would be wise to extend T.J. Edwards and Javon Hargrave sooner rather than later.

One of the more common mistakes that fans make is they tend to only relate the salary cap to the coming season. That’s a bad way of looking at things. The cap isn’t just about the coming year. It’s about the next three to four. Take the Eagles’ situation for instance.

The Birds have a dozen impending free agents to make decisions on in March. They have draft capital and money to burn during the offseason, but they would be wise not to go on a spending spree.

You have to remember that, in 2023, they’ll need to make decisions on guys like Fletcher Cox, Miles Sanders, T.J. Edwards, and Javon Hargrave

. Some of the financial resources will need to be held over to bring guys back. We’ll learn a lot about where all of those guys are over the next 12 months, but here’s what we may already know.

Cox might be on the downside of a Hall-of-Fame career. Miles Sanders is ultra-talented but has been unable to remain healthy and he plays the game’s most punishing position. Hargrave and Edwards are two young stars this team can build around.

Both should be inked to long-term extensions sooner rather than later. The Eagles aren’t in a position where they can let their best players walk, and these guys have plenty of good football left in them.
