3 fun facts about new Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Renell Wren
The Philadelphia Eagles shouldn’t expect Wren to morph into another Fletcher Cox.
Renell Wren isn’t what you’d consider being a splash signing. After all, Philly found him on the Bengals practice squad. There are reasons to be excited though. Here are a few things that you’ll want to keep in mind.
1. The Philadelphia Eagles may not have a defensive lineman that’s as versatile as this one.
Don’t read what hasn’t been written. When Wren walks into the NovaCare Complex, he’ll be staring up on the depth chart at Fletcher Cox, Javon Hargrave, Milton Williams, and Marlon Tuipulotu. They’re all further along in their development, but the Birds may not have a more versatile defensive lineman.
Sure, they’ve got some talented guys. We know Milton Williams can play both inside and out, but at the collegiate level and, so far in his young NFL career, we’ve seen Wren play nose tackle, defensive tackle, and he’s played both defensive end and defensive tackle for Cincinnati.
That isn’t something you just gloss over. That’s a skill set that most young NFL stars with that they had, and that could go a long way in ensuring he’s around the Birds organization for a while. The more that you can do, the better as they say.
