Better options for the Eagles than acquiring Amari Cooper

Eagles can gamble on Allen Robinson being available after the NFL Draft.

Throw Allen Robinson‘s name on the aforementioned list of free-agent prospects we’d value slightly higher than Amari Cooper. Sure, stating his 2021-2022 season was a catastrophe would be an understatement, but you have to look at what he’s had to deal with.

Matt Nagy’s offensive genius didn’t lead to much on-field success. The Chicago Bears also had three quarterbacks take the field to take important snaps behind center (Justin Fields, Andy Dalton, and Nick Foles). Even had Robinson stayed healthy, which he seemingly never was, he was never going to have consistent opportunities to make plays as the Bears, more often than not, experienced sub-par play from their most important position on offense.

The wide receiver position is one of dependency. You can’t get much done if your quarterback doesn’t get you the ball, but you can’t do anything if you aren’t available to teammates either. Everything went wrong for Robinson as he missed five games and battled a hamstring issue for much of the season.

He’ll get a job somewhere in 2022, which he should, but he may not be snatched up at the beginning of the league year. He could wind up finding a home later on in the process a la Steven Nelson last offseason.

Philly didn’t sign him until July 25th, and that could be a similar tactic they use to land a very good wideout later on during the process. Might that be Allen Robinson? Could they get him at a discounted price? You’d rather see them do that than pay exorbitant amounts of money for Amari Cooper.
