Under-the-radar free-agent QBs Philadelphia Eagles should consider, avoid

Is Geno Smith a realistic option for the Eagles to consider?
This is not a name Eagles fans would be excited about in the slightest. To Geno Smith‘s credit, however, his performances versus the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars were surprisingly pleasing.
That isn’t to say anyone should be overly-impressed, but Smith had some decent tape seeing as how we’re discussing his first starts behind center since 2017.
There were some positives from his three starts. He protected the football fairly well with 68.4 percent completion, one interception, one fumble, and just three turnover-worthy plays according to PFF in that span.
On the other hand, Smith panicked under pressure and took way too many sacks in key situations. He had opportunities to lead game-winning drives against the Saints and Steelers but made crucial mistakes at the worst times. Verdict: The Eagles should pass. They might be better off adding Colt McCoy or Trevor Siemian if they get to this point. Plus, Seattle seems to like Smith and could very well re-sign him.
Final thoughts: For the price tag Minshew is playing for and the level he has played at over the past three years, the Eagles have one of the best backup quarterback situations in the league.
There aren’t many other available options that make sense. That won’t prevent the Eagles from making a deal if they get what they desire in return though.
Minshew wants to start and will likely get his opportunity in 2023 at the latest once he’s a free agent. It’s only a matter of time. In the meantime, the backup QB situation in Philadelphia will all depend upon how Minshew’s market shakes out and how the remaining pieces fall in free agency.
