The Eagles are going to trade one of those first-round draft choices.

Let’s just say that Howie Roseman and the Eagles did find themselves at the negotiating table with John Schneider and the Seahawks. Any deal that ends with D.K. Metcalf filling out a change of address form would be costly.

The Eagles have three first-round draft choices, but had they gone after one of the game’s premier quarterbacks that they were interested in, they would have had to part with one of them at minimum. The same can be said about any proposal for someone who’s as talented as D.K.

It’s hard to imagine that deal wouldn’t include a first-rounder (or more) just as it’s hard to imagine the aforementioned trade proposal for Ridley didn’t. Couple all of that with the idea that no one’s sold on the idea that the Eagles are totally committed to Jalen Hurts, and we keep arriving at the same theory.

It’s hard to imagine that Howie Roseman is going to sit in the war room and make three picks at 15,16, and 19. Everything we’ve ever seen about him demonstrates that he sees draft choices as collateral from time to time.

That isn’t to say that he won’t. We’re just tossing out theories here, and there’s no guarantee that an Eagles team that isn’t super excited about the 2022 class of quarterbacks won’t mortgage a first-round pick to gain one next offseason as insurance just in case Jalen Hurts doesn’t work out.
