The Eagles elect to bring Derek Barnett back for two more seasons.

Seriously, the Eagles couldn’t have brought Derek Barnett back on a one-year deal? Bringing back Boston Scott was understandable. He’s one of the better offensive weapons on this team, and he’s proven to be durable while playing a position that isn’t known for its longevity.

Greg Ward and Andre Chachere’s signings are both debatable. Still, even if you disagree with them being on the roster, you can understand the argument for why they are.

It’s much more difficult to defend the Anthony Harris and Zach Pascal signings, and then there’s Derek Barnett. There’s no logical explanation for why this team exercised the fifth-year option on his rookie contract, and Howie Roseman and Philly’s brass should be ashamed of themselves for bringing him back after finally ridding themselves of him to begin the new league year.

The details of Barnett’s deal haven’t been released at the time of this story being written and published. His salary probably wouldn’t have been enough to pay Bobby Wagner’s salary, but you can best believe that it would have helped.

Seriously, who would you rather have in an Eagles jersey? Are you rolling with Wagner or Harris, Barnett, and Paschal? None of those guys make Philly a contender.
