The Eagles have done nothing to upgrade the offense around Jalen Hurts.

The Eagles did Jalen Hurts a solid by landing his former Alabama Crimson Tide teammate DeVonta Smith in the 2021 NFL Draft. Let’s hope a few more pieces are added in the coming selection meeting because the Birds have done nothing to improve the talent of the offense so far this offseason. No, Zach Pascal doesn’t count as an upgrade.

There was excitement about the most recent free-agency frenzy. There haven’t been any fireworks though. Rather than add a difference-maker, Philadelphia spent their money re-signing many of the players from last year’s mediocre roster.

Greg Ward will be back in 2022. So will Boston Scott and Nate Herbig. The only other newsworthy nuggets we’ve been given are the occasional stories we’ve become far too accustomed to hearing. Philly always seems to be in play to land this guy or that guy, but we keep arriving at the same destination. The smoke never leads us to any real fires.

Whatever happened to building around Hurts and giving him the best opportunity to be successful? It would stand to reason that, if the Eagles were truly interested in seeing if Jalen could hold down the role of QB1 long-term, they’d give him a few more weapons. So far, that hasn’t been the case at all.
