830. . . . Ahmad Gardner, Cincinnati. . player

There’s no way the Eagles wind up with Ahmad ‘Sauce’ Gardner, right?

During every offseason when we begin discussing how we should rank the top draft prospects, guys rise on some teams’ big boards and tumble down others. Before there was an NFL Scouting Combine to break down, Pro Days to attend, or top-30 visits to talk about, you could find mock drafts where Ahmad ‘Sauce’ Gardner was ranked behind Derek Stingley and, at times, Trent McDuffie, making him available for the Eagles at 15 or 16.

What a difference a month makes.

It’s April now, and the NFL Draft is less than 30 days away. Most regard Sauce as the top player at his position. Some have even said that he can go in the top five to ten picks, and even though it now seems impossible that the Eagles have any shot at landing him, they did host him with one of their top-30 visits.

Conventional thinking states that the only way to land Gardner is for the Eagles to package picks and move up. It made sense to believe that they were thinking about it a while ago, but those theories are going to be stated more often now. Welcome to the ever-churning rumor mill.
