Eagles die-hards can’t stop discussing Ahmad Gardner, and why would they?

Early in the pre-draft process, before the Senior Bowl, the NFL Scouting Combine, and all of those Pro Days we broke down, Ahmad ‘Sauce’ Gardner was a name that kept popping up in Eagles-centered circles. First, we thought he was someone that might be available around the middle portion of Round 1. Things changed.

These days, it’s hard to find someone who doesn’t believe Sauce will be drafted in the top ten, if not the top five. The Birds were one of the rumored destinations when he was briefly seen as a mid-rounder. Now, that he’s viewed as one of the coming selection meeting’s top talents regardless of position, there hasn’t been a decrease in the interest that’s been thrown in his direction.

Rapoport’s recent update has only added fuel to what’s already raging fire. Take a look.

It wasn’t that long ago that Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher discussed their desire to see Philly move up and take Sauce. Don’t be surprised if they do so. Don’t be shocked if they don’t. History isn’t on Sauce’s side.

Throughout their first-round draft history, Philly has only taken a defensive back in Round 1 three times: Roynell Young (1980), Ben Smith (1990), Lito Sheppard (2002). That’s it. That’s the list.

If there was ever a prospect that was worthy of them ending the drought, this would be the guy though. Philly needs a legitimate starting outside corner opposite Darius Slay, and Big Play isn’t getting any younger. They need a guy that can eventually slide into that CB1 role.
