54. . . . Harold Carmichael (1971). 9. player

Harold Carmichael would be a legend in any era of Philadelphia Eagles football.

Yep! You read that correctly. Fire up the hot tub time machine, teleport Harold Carmichael to any era of Philadelphia Eagles football, and he’d be a matchup nightmare time and time again. He’s proven his mettle at every level of organized football. As a result, his resume is the stuff of legend.

Check out some of the highlight reels. Forgive us if we leave something out. Truthfully, it’s hard not to.

Harold is a two-time Second-team All-Pro (1973, 1979), a four-time Pro Bowler (1973, 1978–1980), 1973’s NFL receptions and receiving yards leader, a member of the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame, the Philadelphia Eagles 75th Anniversary Team, the NFL 1970s All-Decade Team, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, the Florida Sports Hall of Fame, the Southwestern Athletic Conference Hall of Fame, the Black College Football Hall of Fame, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Ask around. It’s hard to find someone who’s as loved as Harold Carmichael. He was never booed by the Philadelphia faithful. He’s a tough act that no one has been able to follow as he left the game as the Eagles’ all-time leader in receptions (589), receiving yards (8,978), and touchdowns (79).

Four decades have passed. Those records still stand, and Carmichael, though a great player, is an even better person. Look no further than his philanthropy and his NFL Man of the Year Award 1980) if you need any evidence of that one.
