Eagles claim Josh Hammond off waivers: 3 fun facts about Philly’s new WR
The bloodline of this young Eagles wideout screams ‘NFL’, and that’s not all.
If the name Hammond sounds familiar, don’t worry. It should be.
Josh Hammond is the younger brother of another former Gators receiver.
Josh’s older brother, Frankie Hammond, was an undrafted free agent that the Kansas City Chiefs found in the spring of 2013. Spending time with K.C. (2013-2016), the New York Jets (2017), and the Alliance of American Football’s Orlando Apollos (2019), Frankie has four receptions and 489 receiving yards on his professional resume (he added another 389 yards as a returner).
This after racking up 63 receptions for 812 yards, and six receiving touchdowns as a member of the Gators in 48 games played from 2009 to 2012. Josh caught 87 passes for 1,138 yards and reached the end zone as a receiver six times as well. He also scored two more times as a rusher, racking up 101 yards on six career carries.
We may have another preseason star on our hands.
It never fails. Every year, Eagles fans fall in love with a preseason star and watch closely to see if he finds his way onto the active roster at some point. Guys like Corey Clement and Paul Turner come to mind.
Don’t be shocked if you hear a lot of Josh Hammond’s name this summer. In 2021, as a member of the Jags, he led Jacksonville in receiving during the preseason with 12 snags for 124 yards.
