The Eagles will benefit on the edges thanks to Jordan Davis’ presence.

There’s been much discussion about the Eagles’ sack total not being where they would have liked a year ago. There were many contributing factors: Hargrave got more attention in the second half of the season. Fletcher Cox had an off-year, but perhaps one of the bigger factors was Brandon Graham missing all but two games due to a ruptured Achilles tendon.

It’s hard to replace B.G., on the field and in the locker room. Thankfully he’ll be back in 2022, and he should have another monstrous season after making the Pro Bowl roster in 2020. No defensive end will ever complain about having so much great talent playing alongside him at the defensive line’s interior.

It’s simple mathematics. Some things will never change as long as the game is played. Regardless of how many times rules change or how the game evolves, the pass rush and coverage will always work hand in hand.

Darius Slay and James Bradberry won’t have to cover as long if the blitz gets home. Sacks will come by way of their talent as cover guys. Then, there are guys like Nakobe Dean.

He benefited at the NCAA level by playing on a talented defense that included Jordan Davis and others, and now that he and Davis are again teammates at the professional level. The hits will continue to come in the NFL.

You can throw Josh Sweat and Tarron Jackson’s names in the discussion as well. The latter isn’t assured of a roster spot, but if he makes the team, a very likely scenario, the interior of Philly’s defensive line will create opportunities at the edge all year. B.G., Sweat, Jackson, and Barnett are going to feast.
