Several Eagles enjoying a stock increase following first preseason game
Jason Huntley saw a lot of reps in the Eagles’ first preseason game and had a nice showing.
Miles Sanders saw some action during the Eagles’ first preseason game. Boston Scott and Kenneth Gainwell sat out of the exhibition versus the Jets due to injuries. That opened the door for Jason Huntley to walk through and get meaningful reps.
Huntley was one of the few Eagles who played at some point or another during all four quarters of the game.
The former New Mexico State running back led the team in rushing with 48 yards on 16 carries. He also scored one touchdown towards the end of the second quarter with 6:28 remaining.
Huntley’s contribution also lent itself to the passing game as he tallied 39 yards on four receptions… But, he didn’t stop there. He added another combined 61 yards on two kickoff returns to aid the special teams unit.
It wasn’t perfect. He fumbled on the final play. He was also stopped on a fourth-down attempt in the first half. The Eagles running back room is a little overcrowded, but Huntley’s performance during the preseason opener should keep him afloat for now.
As Week 1 of the preseason closes, the Eagles’ offense and its leader, Jalen Hurts, looked ready to go. The young guys look like they could contribute some meaningful minutes if called upon this season. Yes, it’s the Jets, but following one week of preseason action, we’ve been given a nice glimpse of what the city has been hoping to see out of its football team. Week 2’s game versus the Cleveland Browns is scheduled for August 21st at 1 p.m. EDT.
