Who’s going to make this team at the wide receiver position?

There’s an abundance of talent on this Eagles preseason roster. Do they keep five guys? Should they keep six? One thing is certain. They’re going to be forced to let some good players go.

Once you get past Brown, Smith, Watkins, and Zach Pascal, the questions begin. Who’s going to earn a spot on the 53-man roster? Normally, we’re asking if they can go find someone else.

The debate will be settled on Tuesday, August 30th. Until then, here’s how ESPN stacks its depth chart:

Primary (X) receiver: A.J. Brown, Jalen Reagor,  John Hightower, Devon Allen

Secondary (Y) receiver: Devonta Smith, Zach Pascal, Deon Cain

Slot (Z) receiver: Quez Watkins, Greg Ward, Britain Covey

Here’s one immediate observation. Greg Ward has been injured for a while, and it’s hard to determine if he’d be on the roster if it had to be introduced today.

Following the August 23rd cut deadline, where teams had to trim to 80 men, the Philadelphia Eagles have ten wide receivers on the roster. A.J. Brown, Devonta Smith, Quez Watkins, and Zach Pascal will make the roster. It’s hard to make definite determinations about anyone else.

The belief of many is Jalen Reagor and Deon Cain are among the frontrunners. Ward is on the chopping block, along with John Hightower, rookie Britain Covey, and Olympic track runner Devon Allen. Might Reagor be traded? That’s another theory. That would also strengthen someone else’s chances.
