This is what people mean when they make statements like something fits ‘like a glove’. The Philadelphia Eagles needed a safety. They got one. His name is Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, and by the looks of things, he’s as thrilled about being in the City of Brotherly Love as his teammates, coaches, and fans are about his arrival.

On the final day of August, he met with select members of the Philly media for the first time. Shortly thereafter, he posted an emotional letter on his social media accounts, bidding farewell to the New Orleans Saints and the members of the Who Dat Nation while simultaneously thanking the Eagles for helping him turn the page to a new chapter in his life.

Check this one out.

C.J. hasn’t even been in Philadelphia for a week yet. He’s attended one practice and hasn’t suited up for a game, and still, for whatever reason, he already feels like more of an Eagles mainstay than some of the guys that have been here much longer. He’s settling in nicely.

Chauncey Gardner-Johnson is another of Howie Roseman’s late additions, and he could turn out to be one of the better late decisions he’s made.

As far as late transactions go, nothing comes close to Howie Roseman‘s decision to trade Sam Bradford eight days ahead of the 2016 NFL season and the corresponding announcement that Carson Wentz would be the starting quarterback. Howie has developed a reputation and a penchant for making some head-turning moves in the 11th hour, and this is another that qualifies.

This may also prove to be one of his wisest moves. C.J. is a playmaker in every sense of the word.

He gave up two late-round draft choices and acquired a playmaker that can help his team immediately, a defensive back that satisfies a huge need this team had ahead of the coming regular season. Then, he, in essence, got those picks back by trading Jalen Reagor a day later.

Howie’s winning streak continues. We’ll see if that leads to a few winning streaks for the Eagles during the regular season. In the meantime, C.J. is an Eagle, the defensive gets another upgrade, and by the looks of things, everyone is smiling. We’re trying not to get too excited, but it’s getting increasingly more difficult to do so.
