State of the NFC East: Ranking the Eagles defense vs rival units
The Giants’ defense hasn’t been striking fear into the hearts of their opponents lately.
New York went 1-1 these past two weeks. When one looks at their defensive stats, it tells some of the stories as to why that’s the case.
The Giants’ defense has allowed opposing offenses to score an average of 27.5 points these past two weeks. Needless to say, that didn’t keep them in their most recent games as the offense isn’t even averaging 20 points a game during Big Blue’s past three games. In Week 10 and Week 11, they gave up an average of 242 passing yards
Their rushing defense hasn’t been much better. Opposing running backs have had their way with them as they have collectively tallied an average of 130.5 rushing yards per game while reaching the end zone four times.
Compared to the NFC East’s other three teams, the Giants haven’t gotten to the quarterback as often as they’ve only been able to sack the opposing quarterback two times during these past two weeks. In terms of turnovers, the G-Men have two, one fumble recovery and an interception by safety Dane Belton.
Three of the NFC East’s teams have struggled with stopping the run recently. The Giants are one of them, and like the Eagles and Cowboys, the Giants will all have their rushing defenses tested in Week 12. All face elite running backs in their matchups. New York has its hands full with Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard on Thanksgiving Day.
