Jalen Hurts outplayed a former MVP on Sunday Night, but is he close to winning the hardware for himself?

By now, you’ve probably watched the game a few more times since Sunday, but how about another hand for QB1? Jalen Hurts was electric in Week 12 as the 24-year-old quarterback led his Philadelphia Eagles to a victory over the Green Bay Packers. He not only threw for over 150 yards, but he also rushed for 150 yards. Two touchdown passes were thrown in the process, making this the only game in NFL history where a player compiled such an impressive stat line.

Week 12 wasn’t just a flash in the pan either. Jalen Hurts has been nothing short of spectacular all season for the Eagles. The third-year passer has 25 total touchdowns and ten wins on his resume in just 11 games. He also currently owns the second-best odds to win the NFL’s MVP award for the 2022-2023 season according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Hurts is second to only Patrick Mahomes. The Kansas City Chiefs star is both a former MVP and Super Bowl Champion. With only six weeks remaining in the regular season, people are beginning to wonder. Can Philly’s rising star supplant the man seen by many as the NFL’s best player and win the hardware for himself?

Here are the obvious arguments for and against him winning the trophy. Before we get into that, however, let’s look at something everyone loves, statistics.
