And, so it begins. Though a beautiful story didn’t provide us with the happy ending we hoped for, fingers are crossed that roses grow from concrete. That’s seemingly how the NFL’s most loyal fan base is feeling. The Philadelphia Eagles have turned the page from one season to the next.

Players cleaned out their lockers on Tuesday. Head Coach Nick Sirianni and vice president/general manager Howie Roseman spoke with the media on Thursday, right around the same time that the Cardinals were introducing Jonathan Gannon as their next head coach in Arizona. Roster news came later.

The Philadelphia Eagles announce the signing of 11 free agents on Thursday.

As much of the East Coast put a capper on another workday, the Philadelphia Eagles announced, via the team’s official website and social media channels, that they’re signing 11 free agents. All were a part of the team’s practice squad and finished there at the season’s end.

Here’s the full list:

  • Devon Allen, wide receiver
  • Tyrie Cleveland, wide receiver
  • Greg Ward, wide receiver
  • Mario Goodrich, defensive back
  • Tarron Jackson, defensive end
  • Matt Leo, defensive end
  • Davion Taylor, linebacker
  • Sua Opet, guard
  • Tyrese Robinson, guard
  • Fred Johnson, tackle
  • Roderick Johnson, tackle
  • Marvin Wilson, defensive tackle

Now, we realize that some of you are younger and that this might be your most disheartening loss so far. Those of us are a little older remember things like Joe Carter’s home run in the World Series or those NFC Title game losses, particularly those to Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers. Here’s what we can promise you.

Seeing this team rebuild itself will provide you with comfort. You’ll never forget this loss, but one day, it won’t be as painful. The NFL Scouting Combine is around the corner. The pre-draft process follows that. The Birds will look different in 2023, but we trust the leadership and these players. They’ll be back. That’s a promise.
