The Eagles’ cornerbacks showed off at their respective NFL combines.

Philadelphia’s secondary definitely doesn’t have any slowpoke. Ask opposing NFL wideouts, and see what they tell you.

Darius Slay, Mississippi State

At the 2013 NFL Combine, Darius Slay would fly high, soaring past the competition in the 40-yard dash and posting an official time of 4.36. Slay’s time would wind up being the fifth fastest of all participants who participated in that year’s showcase. It probably goes without saying that his times ranked first among defensive backs.

James Bradberry, Samford

Three years after Slay’s showing, James Bradberry turned in a decent time, tallying a 4.50-second 40-yard dash showing at the 2016 NFL Combine. Though not the blinding showing that fans of the event go nuts over, James posted a better time than running back Derrick Henry and wide receiver Tyler Boyd.

Avonte Maddox, Pittsburgh

2018 was the year of the speedy defensive back in the 40-yard dash. Seven posted top-ten times. Future Eagles cornerback Avonte Maddox was one of them. He wowed scouts on hand with a blistering official time of 4.39.

Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Florida

At the 2019 NFL Combine, Chauncey Gardner-Johnson was ready to show off his speed and did just that, posting a 4.48 time in the 40-yard dash event. C.J. G.J.’s time was faster than eventual teammates Miles Sanders and A.J. Brown.

K’Von Wallace, Clemson

Last but definitely not least we have K’Von Wallace. The former Clemson Tiger ran a 4.53 in the 40-yard dash event at 2020’s NFL Combine.

Just like Shaun Bradley, Wallace also beat out Jalen Hurts time-wise in the 40-yard dash. These days, he shows off that speed on the Eagles’ special teams unit. Last season, he began to show more positive signs as a defender when forced into action to fill in for injured teammates.

Stay tuned. Fingers are crossed that he’s a late-bloomer that may still shine at some point.
