. . Jaiquawn Jarrett. 26. player. 54.

Jaiquawn Jarrett was another Eagles 2011 draft pick that missed the mark.

After taking Danny Watkins during the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles selected safety Jaiquawn Jarrett out of Temple University during the second. K. J. Wright, Jurrell Casey, Torrey Smith, and Randall Cobb were all on the board. Maybe Philly should have taken one of them.

It’s hard to believe the Eagles didn’t take Jason Kelce in this draft until the sixth round, isn’t it?

Jarrett was supposed to be a physically dominating player that Philly was hoping could help fill the hole in the secondary that Brian Dawkins and Quintin Mikell left behind by moving on. Perhaps asking someone to step in and replace the legendary Weapon X is too tall of a task for anyone.

Jarrett didn’t step up to that challenge in his rookie season. He missed assignments. He struggled in coverage, He didn’t come up with very many tackles. Try 17 tackles in 12 games on for size. That most certainly won’t make anyone forget about Dawk. Jarrett was released during his sophomore season after only appearing in a single game.

Jaiquawn would get signed by the New York Jets in 2013. There, he showed some flashes of what the Birds thought he had the ability to become (66 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions in three seasons), but he’ll always be better known in Eagles lore as a guy that never delivered what the organization hoped he could.
