Byron Maxwell. 31. player. 54. . .

Chip Kelly strikes again and signs Byron Maxwell to an atrocious long-term deal with the Eagles.

As a member of the Seattle Seahawks, Byron Maxwell made his name as part of the legendary Legion of Boom defense en route to becoming a Super Bowl champion. If only he had brought that magic to Philadelphia. In short, he didn’t.

Seen as one of the best cornerbacks on the market in 2015, the Birds paid him as such. Maxwell was given a six-year, $63 million dollar deal, and Philadelphia is STILL waiting on a return on that investment.

The former Seahawk left his best stuff in Seattle. Once he hit the field for Philadelphia, he looked lost and overwhelmed. Opposing wide receivers had a field day on his side of the formation.

In Week 1 of the 2015 NFL season versus the Atlanta Falcons, Julio Jones burned him for ten receptions, 179 yards receiving, and two touchdowns. It didn’t get any better as the season moved on.

Byron ended his one and only season in Philly with 64 tackles, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and two interceptions in 14 games. Howie Roseman saw his power restored after Chip Kelly’s dismissal and couldn’t get Maxwell (or Alonso) out of the city fast enough. Both were shipped off to the Miami Dolphins.
