NFL Draft grades: Best, worst decisions made by every Eagles rival
NFL Draft grades: Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys may have finally guaranteed the NFC East will have a repeat champion. Clearly, the NFC East’s second-best team now, they have the division’s second-best quarterback, its second-best offense and defense, and they missed an opportunity to close the gap with the selections they made in the NFL Draft.
Why? It’s simple. They also own the NFC East’s second-best leadership structure. Can we argue they have the fourth-best coaching staff?
Draft class:
Mazi Smith, DT, Michigan (Round 1, Pick 26)
Luke Schoonmaker, TE, Michigan (Round 2, Pick 58)
DeMarvion Overshown, LB, Texas (Round 3, Pick 90)
Viliami Fehoko, DE, San Jose State (Round 4, Pick 129)
Asim Richards, OT, North Carolina (Round 5, Pick 69)
Eric Scott Jr., CB, Southern Miss (Round 6, Pick 178)
Deuce Vaughn, RB, Kansas State (Round 6, Pick 212)
Jalen Brooks, WR, South Carolina (Round 7, Pick 344)
Best move:
Can we argue that Dallas’ best picks came when they found value by landing EDGE Viliami Fehoko and running back Deuce Vaughn in rounds four and six respectively? The Cowboys reached with their first pick and may have made their second out of desperation because they missed out on a better prospect who went elsewhere earlier.
Their third-rounder, DeMarvion Overshown may have been a reach as well, so Fehoko and Vaughn may land as their best selections by default.
Worst move: Selecting Mazi Smith sooner than they needed to.
Mazi Smith is a baller. He fills a need for Dallas and helps satisfy their need to plug holes in their run defense, but just about everyone gave him second-round grades ahead of the NFL Draft. Taking Bryan Bresee may have given them a better and more complete prospect that plays the same position. Grade: C
