In the span of two days, the Philadelphia Eagles have lost two of their starting offensive linemen. After Lane Johnson's emotional retirement on Tuesday, the Eagles traded guard Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday. Philly got a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick in return, a solid haul for a player who has struggled this season.
As Eagles fans have come to know, general manager Howie Roseman is never idle. After trading Jurgens away, he's bound to at least explore the moves he could make next.
This trade doesn't necessarily signal a full-scale rebuild, though Philadelphia's current salary cap situation could force them into one. If they want to walk the line between rebuilding and remaining competitive this season, they should consider these three moves.
Eagles should trade QB Tanner McKee to Buccaneers
Not too long ago, the Eagles were asking for a second-round pick in exchange for Tanner McKee. Nobody jumped on that exorbitant price, which has likely dropped since. If Philadelphia were to trade the backup quarterback now, they probably wouldn't get much more than a fourth- or fifth-round pick.
But if they don't believe that he can be a full-time starter, that may be enough to get a deal done. Andy Dalton can fill in as Jalen Hurts' backup for the time being, and the Eagles can reassess their quarterback situation next offseason.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers might just be desperate enough to make the move. Baker Mayfield is out with a thumb injury and can't grip a football at the moment. The Buccaneers are currently relying on undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels to fill in for Mayfield. While their 0-4 record suggests that they shouldn't be trading draft picks away, their staff may be willing to do so on the hot seat.
Jonah Williams is an obvious Lane Johnson replacement
Even if the losses of Johnson and Jurgens make a Super Bowl run improbable, the Eagles can't just let their offensive line go to waste. Rookie Markel Bell is currently slated to fill in for Johnson at right tackle. He was always going to be a developmental player, and it showed when he got his first start in Week 4.
Bell allowed six pressures and three sacks against the Los Angeles Rams. Even if they weren't all his fault, it was a rough day for the rookie.
Veteran free agent Jonah Williams could offer Bell some competition at the very least. He would allow Bell to develop without having the pressure of being a full-time starter. At this point in the season, the former Arizona Cardinals tackle likely wouldn't be too expensive.
Eagles should sign former Steelers G James Daniels
Speaking of offensive linemen still sitting in free agency, guard James Daniels could be a player worth adding to the mix. He was a fixture for the Steelers for three years before a failed one-year stint with the Miami Dolphins.
Daniels isn't the player he was a few years ago, but he could still offer the Eagles starting-caliber guard play.

Currently, Willie Lampkin and rookie sixth-round pick Micah Morris are Philadelphia's only guards on the active roster.
