The Philadelphia Eagles are set to take on the New England Patriots for the second preseason game of the season.
Philly just finished up a two-day joint practice event with the Patriots that yielded mixed but important results. With the trend of starters not playing in this game, all eyes will be on the bench and how they perform
Seven players should have this game circled on their calendars because they need to perform well if they don't want to lose their spot on the roster. Here are the Eagles players who need to step up and play well in this game.
Which Eagles players can't afford to make any kind of mistakes?
Brandon George, LB
George was on the team for 24 hours and still managed six tackles against the Baltimore Ravens last week. It was an impressive turnaround, but he still faces an uphill battle to make the team. He needs to have a near-flawless game in New England if he wants to keep his name in the conversation for the 53-man roster.
Quez Watkins, WR
Watkins has been a long-time receiver for the Eagles, but this training camp has been quiet for him. When something is reported about him, it's rarely good news. A lot of the backup receivers could be on this list, but Watkins might be fighting for his NFL career, so he would like to avoid the same fate Johnny Wilson just had.
Ambry Thomas, CB
Thomas had a lot of tackles last week with seven, but also allowed a lot of completions. Shaun Wade may not play against the Patriots due to an injury, so Thomas might have a chance to get some playing time. If Thomas doesn't play his cards right in this game, this might be the final stop of his NFL career.
Jake Majors, OL
Majors had a really good outing last week, not allowing a sack in the contest. The problem is, so did a lot of the offensive linemen, like Drew Kendall, Willie Lampkin, and rookie Markel Bell. This is a game where Majors can't afford any mistakes at all.
Michael Jordan, OL
Jordan might be rolling with the backups, but the veteran offensive guard has not gotten a lot of buzz around him. Others have gotten attention, leading many to believe his spot on the team might not be as secure as it could be. Jordan needs to make some highlight blocks on the line in this game.
David Blay Jr., DT
Blay hasn't been on the team very long, but he had a solid preseason opener with five tackles and one quarterback hit against the Ravens. He's going to need another performance like that and more if he wants to start a conversation about him. It might already be too late for him, but one great performance could change the conversation.

Andy Dalton, QB
Dalton may not technically get released, but he still needs to have a good game for the Eagles. When he ran the offense against the Ravens last week, the unit looked boring as can be. If Dalton has a bad game, he might have to be considered a trade candidate right away, or maybe he does get released over Tanner McKee after all.
