Philadelphia Eagles fans were a bit caught off guard by the team signing veteran wide receiver Elijah Moore to a one-year contract.

Stories started coming out that Moore has a direct relationship with Eagles star wide receiver A.J. Brown, as the two are close friends from their time together at Ole Miss. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter appeared on 97.5 The Fanatic, where he shut down the narrative that the Eagles signed Moore because of his friendship with Brown.

“I’ve seen it floated out there, obviously [A.J. Brown and Elijah Moore] are very close, they have a great relationship. I don’t believe that’s why they signed Elijah Moore. Although it doesn't hurt, I think they signed Elijah Moore, because when you look at their roster you can’t have a surplus of undrafted free agents to fill out your roster. You just can’t do that. You need people that have played in the league who are experienced and provide some depth in event that you need it, and I think that singing is no more than that. Because it’s a wide receiver we can come up with all our theories and float them out there. I just think it’s the fact that their filling out their roster with experienced people who have proven to play at the NFL level. Period."

Adam Schefter says Elijah Moore's signing has nothing to do with A.J. Brown

At this point, it would have to take something massive to convince Brown that he wants to stay in Philly. The frustration level is high with him, as he wants to play for a contender like the New England Patriots, where he will get more targets and pad the stats to make a difference on the team.

Even if Brown wants to stay as an Eagle in 2026, Moore's signing would not have any effect on it. Brown is all about making sure he can be the key reason his team is successful, so his playing time and targets would not be affected by Moore's presence.

What could help the Eagles with Brown is having a friend like Moore to help with his mindset. Moore knows Brown well and can be there to support him when things seem bad.

A trade still seems like it is a possibility for the Eagles and Brown, but no matter what the final decision is, Moore doesn't play a single role in anything that happens in the future. He's there to give the team the depth they need at wide receiver.
