The Philadelphia Eagles might be getting close to full desperation mode with finding the right man to be the offensive coordinator for 2026 and hopefully beyond.

So far, Mike McDaniel and Zac Robinson, two candidates who interviewed for the Eagles job, passed on it for other jobs. While Brian Daboll was originally thought of as out of the running after he interviewed is now not completely out of the picture yet.

This still leaves the Eagles to start thinking outside the box with candidates, with guys like Mike Kafka, Jim Bob Cooter, and Declan Doyle now seen as the top candidates for the job. There is one the Eagles haven't talked to, yet that might be so crazy, it could work.

Should the Eagles give Philip Rivers a call about the OC job?

Before Eagles fans start making posts and comments about how stupid this sounds, let's think about it.

The Buffalo Bills just interviewed Philip Rivers for their head coach job after they fired Sean McDermott. Rivers miraculously came back from retirement after five years to start at quarterback in three of the last four games of the season with the Indianapolis Colts to help them in their playoff run.

It was a decision that might have seemed crazy at the time, but Rivers actually did a good job, and that's because he already knew the offensive system from when he was the starter in Indianapolis back in 2020. Who happened to have been his offensive coordinator in 2020 at the time for the Colts?

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni.

When Rivers played for the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers, who was his quarterback coach in 2014 and 2015?

Again, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni.

Sirianni was an assistant on the Chargers' offense from 2013 through 2017, so there is over a decade of relationship between Sirianni and Rivers. It seems like if Rivers is going to interview for a head coach job, why not call him for an offensive coordinator job?

Rivers has been calling plays at the high school level for nearly a decade, and it was the same pro-style offense being run with the Colts. That's a Colts team that has one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL, led by Jonathan Taylor.

Yes, Rivers has never been a play caller at the NFL level, so it is fair to have some reservations, but neither does Doyle, and he's considered a candidate to watch. Also, Rivers is known for being a great leader and handling the media well, so nothing will faze him, despite how tough Philadelphia is for a sports city.

With how this offensive coordinator search is going, why not add Rivers into the picture? Maybe it could be seen as an act of desperation, but at this point, the team is already there, and Rivers might even get the fan base excited and something to look forward to for the 2026 season.
