"It's cool to say like I was part of a Super Bowl winning team, but like the way that that went down, like me finding out that I wasn't playing, I lost so much respect for people involved," former Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Bryce Huff said about the team via the Caps Off Podcast.
Those are some bold words from Huff, even after saying what he said about a team that gave him big money in free agency in 2024 to produce the kind of awful numbers he did. He racked up 13 tackles, four quarterback hits, three tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble in 12 games that year. Huff would say he knew from the start that it was not going to be a good fit with the Eagles.
"First week of camp," Huff said. "For the fans especially, like, they like take pride in going after people."
Former Eagles edge-rusher Bryce Huff says he wasn’t successful in Philadelphia because of the fans. Also states he ‘lost respect’ for the Eagles after he was a healthy scratch in the Super Bowl.

Bryce Huff slams Eagles and fan base when he should look in the mirror
What a really interesting choice to go after the Eagles when there doesn't seem to be much accountability on his part. Huff dealt with a torn ligament in his groin area that season and missed five games. He just wasn't the same, even when he did come back from the injury.
The reality was that Josh Sweat was the top pass rusher on that Super Bowl-winning team, and Nolan Smith was emerging in his second year. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio had to go with guys who were the best fits for the team at that time, and Huff was not one of them.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman would rectify the situation by trading Huff away last year to the San Francisco 49ers during minicamp. Huff finished with just four sacks in 15 games last year, leading him to announce his retirement from the NFL during the offseason.
Looking back at Huff's career, it was one season where he got 10 sacks with the New York Jets that really defined him. That year got him a large three-year contract for the Eagles, but outside of that one season, Huff never had more than four sacks in a season during his six-year career.
It's a shame to say that, as there was no doubt that he had the talent to play in the NFL and might be leaving the league too soon. He was never really a starter in the NFL; he was more of a really good rotational pass rusher who needed to be on the field for passing downs.

Roseman can chalk up the Huff signing as one of the biggest mistakes of his tenure as general manager and has since learned from it. No free agent signing at edge rusher for the Eagles has come close to the contract that Huff got. That mistake won't be made twice, thanks to Huff giving that lesson to the Eagles the hard way.
