After a brutal 22-19 overtime loss for the Philadelphia Eagles against the Los Angeles Chargers, center Cam Jurgens made some comments that had fans wondering what's going on during the week at practice.
Jurgens was asked about the team's penalty issues, and he told reporters he didn't think they were clean enough in practice. That sparked many to look at the coaching staff and question whether they are addressing those issues during the week.
While appearing on SportsRadio 94 WIP, Jurgens had a chance to clarify what he meant by those comments. He stated that the coaching staff was correcting the mistakes and that it was up to everyone to fix them.
"I think when you ask a question like that, and it's like "Hey, why do we have so many penalties and why is the operation seem different,' it's like alright, well the only way we can work on that is during the week and being clean and walkthroughs and practice and being detailed. I'm not saying it's sloppy, sloppy, sloppy, but I'm just saying that's the only way we can work on and that's during the week and obviously if we aren't clean in the game then we weren't clean enough during the week."
Eagles continue to have issues with the small things
The penalties continue to be a concern for the Eagles, as they are now fifth in the NFL with 97 through 13 games. They are also fourth in penalty yards with 818.
A lot of it comes from the offensive line, their communication with each other, and their continuity. That seemed to be going better in the Chargers' loss as the team had six penalties, but some could be questioned as to whether they should have been called, including Jordan Mailata's holding call in the second quarter that took a touchdown off the board.
Eagles fans wished this would have been fixed by now, but the sad reality is that it may be just the way the team plays the rest of the season. This is stuff that the fifth or sixth game should have fixed, but if it keeps happening through 13 games, then there isn't much hope that it will ever be fixed.

The real question is whether this team can win despite multiple mental mistakes. That answer right now is no unless it changes in the last four games.
