Philadelphia sports media has taken a wild turn for the worse in their overreactions, to the point that it has reached the front door of head coach Nick Sirianni.
Sirianni made his weekly appearance on SportsRadio 94 WIP, discussing the Eagles' 22-19 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14. A wild question came up as to whether quarterback Jalen Hurts would be the starter for the Week 15 showdown against the Las Vegas Raiders. There was no hesitation in Sirianni's response.
"Yeah absolutely."
A follow-up question was asked: whether there is any possibility that Hurts would be replaced if he continues to struggle. Sirianni once again stood behind his quarterback with a longer answer this time.
"No I think that's ridiculous. I know every time I go out in that field with Jalen Hurts as our quarterback, we have a chance to win the game. That's something that's been proven. We've won a lot of football games. This is a team game. This is the most ultimate team game. You win together as a team. You lose together as a team. It's never just one thing. I kind of said that last week or the week before with Kevin. The same deal. I know every time I walk out on that field and Jalen Hurts is the starting quarterback, I have so much confidence that we can win every game and any game that we are in."
Sirianni gives his public support for Hurts
The questions arise from yet another poor performance by Hurts against the Chargers. He finished the game completing just 52.5% of his passes for 240 yards and four interceptions with a fumble lost.
Hurts' last five games have been an absolute struggle as he has had only one game where he completed more than 60% of his passes in a contest. Since the bye week, he has scored seven total touchdowns and eight turnovers.
It's fair to criticize Hurts for his play of late, as he has not been accurate with the football and has not been running it as often as fans would have liked. The confidence has not been there for the former Super Bowl MVP.
Should Eagles fans be questioning whether he should be the starter instead of backup Tanner McKee? No, that is, in Sirianni's words, ridiculous. One bad game shouldn't define Hurts as a starter, as his resume proves he has earned that spot.

Things no doubt need to improve for the 8-5 Eagles, but a quarterback change is too much. Hurts needs to improve his play quickly.
