While there were plenty of missed moments from the Philadelphia Eagles in their 22-19 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14, one still bugs the fan base, and left tackle Jordan Mailata as well.
Before halftime, Jalen Hurts had connected with A.J. Brown on a two-yard touchdown pass that would have put the Eagles in a position to tie the game at 10-10, but the officials called a holding penalty on Mailata that backed them up 10 yards. Philly would have to end up settling for a Jake Elliott 30-yard field goal to make the score 10-6.
While appearing on his weekly show on SportsRadio 94 WIP, Mailata was asked about the play. While he didn't want to use that time to vent his frustrations about the referees, he made it clear what his stance was.
"I just don't think that was a penalty. I don't want I don't ever get into officiating and I'm always going to be the first one to put my hand up and say, I just think it was a little ticky tacky because as I'm lying on the ground looking behind me, I'm just looking at Khalil Mack b lining straight for Jalen and I'm sitting there like, oh my God, he's going to get killed. I see the flag. I'm like, man, I wonder who's who's that on? And they call my number. I'm like, how do I get a holding call? The guy has a straight line to Jalen Hurts."
Just one of the many moments that held the Eagles back from winning
Despite how inconsistent the offense was in the game, the Eagles still felt like the better team than the Chargers. Philly's pass rush got seven sacks on Justin Herbert and held the passing game under 200 yards.
Even on offense, some good things were happening. Saquon Barkley had his 52-yard score and 122 rushing yards in the game. The offensive line only allowed one sack on Hurts.
The main problems were that the team had six penalties, Hurts had five turnovers, Jake Elliott missed a field goal, and Brown had three key drops, two of which could have been touchdowns. This game was more about the Eagles beating themselves than the Chargers beating them.

Eagles fans join Mailata in being frustrated with some key moments or calls that weren't made, but the offense has to do a better job of executing and eliminate the mental mistakes they make.
