There are many Philadelphia Eagles fans who are probably feeling some kind of way about Christian Parker departing the franchise to become the Dallas Cowboys' new defensive coordinator after two years of coaching Philly's defensive backs.
Some fans don't like that Parker left for a rival when the Eagles could have promised him the DC job next year, with current defensive coordinator Vic Fangio most likely retiring after almost doing so this offseason. On the other hand, taking the Cowboys' job left a sour taste in Eagles fans' mouths despite the fact that no one could really blame him for taking the promotion.
During his first action as defensive coordinator, Parker spoke with the Dallas media about his new scheme. He wanted to make something about what he is doing with the Cowboys.
"This is our defense. I don't want it to be called the Eagles defense or Vic (Fangio's) defense," Parker said via The Athletic's Jon Machota. 'This is going to be ours. We've been real intentional about going about that process from the language that we use, the workflow that we have, and everything else. It's been real fun."
Christian Parker wants no part of being attached to Vic Fangio
It's understandable that Parker wants to make his own mark on the NFL, but it's hard to ignore the fact that he learned a lot from arguably the best defensive mind in the game. Parker should be proud that he learned so much, as Fangio was a catalyst in getting him the Cowboys job.
To Parker's credit, he did a great job developing Eagles corners Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean the last two years and making them into All-Pro talents last year. Anyone who can make two second-year players into All-Pros that quickly deserves his flowers.

No matter what Parker does in his career, though, Fangio will always be attached to him. Parker better hope he does well in Dallas, or otherwise, that won't ever go away from him.
