This could be it for two of the newest additions to the Philadelphia Eagles roster.
The team announced that they had signed running back Jordan Mims and defensive back Jaylen Mahoney. This follows the Eagles' release of two players, J.T. Gray and Ja'Quinden Jackson, just hours before signing Mims and Mahoney.
Mims has played three seasons in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints and the Tennessee Titans, racking up 141 total yards of offense. Mahoney spent the 2024 season with the San Francisco 49ers and last year in the United Football League.

The reality is that Mims and Mahoney won't make the roster. They know that better than anyone. Those two have a sole purpose for being in Philly, though: to get the attention of another NFL team.
This is their shot at getting some preseason playing time to show they can be an impact player elsewhere. Both have NFL experience and know what it takes to make a team, so the expectations are set.
For the Eagles, both are much-needed depth pieces as they navigate this final week of training camp. Gray was a disappointment in the Eagles' secondary, and Jackson unfortunately got hurt in the 24-21 preseason loss to the New England Patriots.
Mims has played in multiple NFL games and has been a solid back. He's trying to find a place where he could be an RB3 for a team with injuries at the running back position.
Mahoney used the UFL to show off his coverage, which has helped him land another job. This is his chance to help the Eagles' very weak secondary by creating turnovers.
This Eagles roster has a lot of movement, but it's plenty before and after their preseason showdown against Cincinnati. Mims and Mahoney's arrival, though, will push the other players to play better if they want a shot at making the 53-man roster.

Philly needs to end the preseason on a high note with a win and, hopefully, get strong performances from their young and new players. Mims and Mahoney will be ones to watch to see what kind of impact they can make with less than a week of preparation. If they can shine, they'll get calls from elsewhere after the preseason; they might even land a practice squad spot with the Eagles.
