It just wouldn't be a normal week for the Philadelphia Eagles with so many key players hurt.

The hits continued, adding to the Eagles' injury list, as six players missed their second practice in Week 8 preparation against the Washington Commanders. Starters who did not practice include Saquon Barkley (hamstring/back), Jihaad Campbell (hamstring/quad), DeVonta Smith (hamstring), and Dontayvion Wicks (ankle). Cornerback Jonathan Jones (hamstring) and Britain Covey (knee) also did not practice.

14 other players appeared on the injury report as either limited participants or full participants. The list keeps getting worse for the Eagles.

Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith highlight key Eagles not practicing

Barkley played only 10 snaps in the 38-21 Week 7 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and he came out of that game worse. He said his hamstring was fine, but his back bothered him more. It doesn't look like the Eagles will have Barkley for the Commanders game unless he practices Friday, which would make it the third game he's missed this season if that happens.

Smith might miss yet another game, his fourth. That hamstring isn't healing as fast as Eagles fans hoped, and the team is playing it safe with him.

The possibility is creeping up that if Barkley and Smith can't get healthy in time for this team to make a comeback, and they shut them down for the season, the team might shut down. A loss against the Commanders could accelerate those plans.

Campbell is another concern for not playing, as he has not been 100% healthy over the last few weeks. If he can't play, he might be replaced by Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the starting lineup.

Wicks would miss his second straight game if he is ruled out. That would leave the Eagles shorthanded at receiver once again and see Makai Lemon and Darius Cooper in the starting lineup for a second straight game.

Other key injuries for Eagles to monitor for Week 8

The Eagles' top three edge rushers, Jonathan Greenard (ankle), Nolan Smith Jr. (concussion), and Jalyx Hunt (knee/ankle), were all listed as limited in Thursday's practice. This position group has been under heavy scrutiny this season, as they have been banged up throughout.

Moro Ojomo is dealing with a neck injury, but was limited in practice. Philly may look to trade him, so the first concern is getting him healthy, but also making sure that, if a good deal comes across Howie Roseman's desk, Ojomo is healthy enough to move.

Covey and Jones not practicing would hurt the Eagles' depth chart. Without Covey, their special teams would take a hit, which might leave Elijah Mitchell as the Commanders' kickoff and punt returner. Jones's potential absence would mean Quinyon Mitchell and Riq Woolen have to stay healthy at cornerback; otherwise, the team has little depth there.

This could be another week when the Eagles lack the depth to hold up during the game. The long 2026 season keeps getting longer.
