There was a short time when Philadelphia Eagles fans thought they might be facing Trey Lance for the Los Angeles Chargers instead of Justin Herbert, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh updated reporters on Herbert's hand injury that he suffered in Week 13 against the Las Vegas Raiders. Herbert underwent surgery for a broken bone in his left hand and did not practice with the team, with Lance taking first-team reps. Harbaugh would not say whether Herbert would play or not.
The Chargers are coming off a win over the Raiders, putting them at 8-4 on the season, and are two games behind the Denver Broncos in the AFC West. Los Angeles is in the thick of the AFC playoff hunt, as it would be in the Wild Card if the playoffs started in Week 14.
Eagles better prepare for the idea of playing Herbert
It's a longer week since the Eagles and Chargers are playing on Monday Night Football, so that's a significant advantage for Los Angeles. Herbert will get extra rest, as the quarterback has already stated he expects to play in the game.
The Eagles' secondary will be tested against one of the NFL's best passing attacks. While Philly's secondary held their own against the Chicago Bears in the Week 13 loss, the Week 12 loss to the Dallas Cowboys was horrible, as Dak Prescott threw for 354 yards and two touchdowns.
Things will not get any easier as the Eagles have to travel across the country to play a Chargers team that certainly looks like a playoff team. Philly needs it after two straight losses and the season hanging by a thread.

The Eagles need to be ready for anything, as this might be a season-defining game, as a loss could mean all momentum is lost.
