Things move quickly in the NFL, don't they? Four days after winning the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles, Kellen Moore was introduced as the next new Orleans Saints head coach.
As promised, he attended the victory parade. He returned to the Big Easy and continued working on assembling his staff. A few of Philly's offensive assistants were interviewed.
Eagles running backs coach Jemal Singleton interviewed for the Saints' offensive coordinator job as did Philly's QB coach, Doug Nussmeier. Defensive backs coach Christian Parker interviewed for the defensive coordinator role. Moore would eventually officially offer a job to Eagles assistant offensive line coach and run game specialist T.J. Paganetti.
The most important part about all that is what it meant for Philly. They needed to name another OC on their staff. They didn't tarry long. Kevin Patullo receives a promotion after serving as a pass game coordinator (2023–2024) and adding the associate head coach title to his name before this season.
Kevin Patullo offers some offensive consistency, and promoting him was the wisest and best move for the Eagles' coaching staff.
When conversations began about the impending vacancy the Birds would have on their offensive coaching, Patullo was someone we mentioned as the logical choice to replace Kellen Moore. Kevin has known Nick Sirianni for a while. They met in Indianapolis as co-members of the Colts' coaching staff under Frank Reich. Nick was the offensive coordinator, and Patullo was the wide receivers coach.
Three years flew by, and Sirianni accepted the Eagles' vacant head-coaching position after Doug Pederson left. He brought Kevin along with him. The latter has been the former's right-hand man, even filling in to run day-to-day activities when Nick was absent with COVID in 2021.
Patullo has been on the coaching roster for the duration of Sirianni's tenure in Philadelphia. He's seen three OCs (Shane Steichen, Brian Johnson, and Kellen Moore). Now, he gets his opportunity. Philly didn't even interview another candidate.
The best part about all of this is it creates consistency in the Eagles' offense, something Jalen Hurts has lacked since... well... high school and a two-year run with the aforementioned Shane Steichen.
He spoke with 94 WIP-FM's Eliot Shorr-Parks ahead of Super Bowl LIX.
Kevin Patullo with a really detailed answer on what his role has been. Described it as half head coach, half OC

When asked if he has interest in being an official OC and calling plays he said “absolutely” pic.twitter.com/yf9zRk7brY
Still not convinced? Jalen spoke about Patullo recently. "He'd have a different role... So, it's hard to compare (his current role) to (his new one). His job will demand something totally different of him... I have a lot of confidence in him and what he’s shown; however, I know, over the years, I’ve learned (these decisions are) out of my jurisdiction."

QB1 can rest easy here. Few have eyed his game closer than Patullo for these past three seasons. He's ready. This move is wise for the Birds as they prepare for another season.
