Eagles news: Saquon Barkley's coronation, another return and promotion
They say nice guys finish last. That theory will be rewritten if Saquon Barkley's meteoric run through the 2024-25 NFL season continues. He's already our pick for the NFL Offensive Player of the Year trophy. He's also captured a special place in our hearts. His humility is inspiring. We no longer think of him as a former New York Giant. He has earned his wings.
The hits keep coming for Philly's new star. He notched another phenomenal showing, one versus his former teammates. He racked up 176 yards rushing and a TD. What's crazy is he took the fourth quarter off.
As you might expect, league offices and the NFL Network took notice.
Eagles news: Saquon Barkley is your 'Angry Runs' winner and your
If we don't do anything else on Mondays, we tune into NFL Network's Good Morning Football to see who the winner of the Angry Runs segment is. This week, we saw more of a coronation than a competition. There was never any doubt about who would wield the scepter this week.
And, there's more good news... Saquon is also the Eagles' Toyota Player of the Week and the NFL's Offensive Player of the Week for Week 7 in the National Football Conference!
Well done Mr. Barkley! Rumble young man rumble! Now, on to some housekeeping.
More Eagles news: Jack Driscoll joins the 53-man roster, and a familiar face rejoins the practice squad.
Roster news comes out of the NovaCare Complex as expected. Jack Driscoll has been promoted to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. That makes sense as starting right guard Mekhi Becton missed Wednesday's practice after leaving Week 7's game with an injury.
Philly also reported, via team announcement, Parris Campbell, who was released on Tuesday, returns one day later and again joins the practice squad.
As you can see, Philadelphia also signed second-year defensive tackle Siaki Ika. He's a six-foot-three, 335-pounder who provides more beef for the interior of the defensive line.
He was a third-round pick of the Cleveland Browns during the 2023 NFL Draft and a member of the LSU Tigers' CFP National Championship team in 2019. He was the Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year in 2021 after transferring to Baylor. He was also a two-time First-Team All-Big 12 nod in 2021 and 2022.
We thought Campbell's release on Tuesday (and John Ross's addition to the scout team's injured reserve) meant rookie wide receiver Ainias Smith was set to return to the roster from Philly's IR. Stay tuned on that front.
The Eagles opened practice windows for him and Sydney Brown on October 7th. Brown has already returned to action. Smith may do the same, but we must wait and see.
