Eagles QBs Dorian Thompson and Jalen Hurts share a coach of a different sort

DTR and Kenyon Green met the Philly media for the first time, and we learned this isn't the first time QB1 and the new guy have shared coaching.

Maybe we're the only ones, but we're excited about Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Many moons before he was part of the Philadelphia Eagles' QB swap with the Cleveland Browns, he was a two-time Second-Team All-Pac-12 nod (2020 & 2021).

Yep! You caught us! You see what we were doing there! We were staying up late on Saturday nights and being nosey. We were curious to see what Chip Kelly was doing.

Much has changed since then. Chip landed at Ohio State. Now, he's back in the NFL with the Las Vegas Raiders. The UCLA Bruins joined the Big Ten Conference, and DTR spent two seasons with the lowly Cleveland Browns.

We didn't see much of DTR in Cleveland, but from what we understand, things didn't go well. 15 in-game appearances and five starts led to a 1-4 record, a 52.6 completion percentage, and a 1-10 TD-to-interception ratio.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson joins the Eagles

You don't even have to say anything. We know what you're thinking. With all that said, you're wondering why we'd use a word like excited, right? Well, look at it this way, Philly saw something in this guy too. He wouldn't be here if he didn't, and let's be honest here.

It isn't like we're going to see him play much.

DTR joins the Birds thanks to an early-offseason trade. Philadelphia sent Kenny Pickett to Cleveland in return for his services. The Eagles also landed a 2025 fifth-round draft choice to sweeten the deal.

The draft compensation alone makes this feel like a good move. Come on. Did you think Philly would get a fifth-rounder for Pickett?

Then, there's the other thing. How certain are we that DTR doesn't have the higher ceiling? Again, he won't have a chance to prove that in Philly unless the backup, Tanner McKee, gets a starting job elsewhere, but you have to admit. Stating he might isn't too insane of a theory.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Jalen Hurts share a chess coach

One day after the start of the new league year, DTR and offensive lineman Kenyon Green made their way to the City of Brotherly Love. The latter was acquired in a player and picks swap with the AFC South's Houston Texans. Philly landed Green and a 2025 fifth-round draft choice.

The new guys met with select members of the Philly media on Thursday. As it turns out, DTR is already familiar with Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee. He and QB1 share a chess coach.

Who knew? A chess coach... We learn something about QB1 every day, but more importantly, Philly's QB room is in good hands.

They're led by Scot Loeffler. Recently, it was reported they will hire Montgomery VanGorder
from the Georgia Bulldogs program as an offensive assistant
. Philly most certainly has talent at the position.

Jalen Hurts is as mature a 26-year-old as you'll ever find. We know Tanner McKee is smart. He went to Stanford for Heaven's sake. DTR is as fiery a competitor as you will find. He's also a student of the game.

Remember? We stayed up late to watch the Chip Kelly coaching era at UCLA.
