The Philadelphia Eagles have added to the nest. Their coaching staff has its latest addition. His name is Scot Loeffler. Don't worry. We didn't know much about him either and were forced to perform a Google search like you did.
We arrived here because Philly knew it would have to restock its coaching roster after one of the worst kept secrets of recent memory was announced. Kellen Moore was officially hired as the New Orleans Saints' head coach after the Birds won Super Bowl LIX and reached out to his former coworkers for help.
He interviewed a few other Eagles assistants: RBs coach Jemal Singleton, DBs coach Christian Parker, assistant offensive line coach T.J. Paganetti, and QBs coach Doug Nussmeier. He eventually poached Paganetti and Nussmeier to join him in the Big Easy as two of his offensive assistants.
That led Philadelphia to announce an internal promotion and travel a winding road that led them to Bowling Green, Ohio.
Fun facts about new Eagles QBs coach Scot Loeffler
Philly's transition from Kellen Moore is expected to be an easy one. They made an internal hire to find his replacement. Kevin Patullo will take the reigns, and yes, he will call the offensive plays. Nothing was mentioned publicly about anyone else being interviewed though head coach Nick Sirianni suggested in his presser at the NFL Combine that there was an interview process.
The Bowling Green Falcons announced, per their official team site, that their head coach of the past six seasons, Scot Loeffler, was hired away by the Philadelphia Eagles. He'll now serve as the Birds' QB coach. He'll now work closely with Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee.
We'll see if Kenny Pickett remains on the roster or if he leaves and travels elsewhere. Meanwhile, here are a few fun facts about Coach Loeffler.
Scot Loeffler was 0-3 in bowl games as a head coach.
We'll be honest with you. Never have we ever watched a Bowling Green football game. As it turns out, it doesn't feel like we missed much until the past two seasons.
Loeffler's overall record was 27-41. He led the Falcons to three bowl games but lost each of them.
Bowling Green finished with a winning record to close each of the past two seasons.
Though most will cringe at the 27-41 record (like we did), it only tells part of the story. Loeffler led Bowling Green to three straight bowl appearances and winning records in 2023 and 2024. Seeing he improved the program is a good sign.
Scot Loeffler was also once a member of the Temple Owls coaching staff.
Loeffler's coaching tenure began in 1996 and includes previous stops in the NFL, Big Ten, ACC and SEC among other areas, He was also the Temple Owls' offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 2011, so he has some experience with the Philadelphia area.
Loeffler has some playing experience having played QB at Michigan from 1993-96.
Loeffler played his college ball at one of the NCAA's most storied institutions, Michigan. He played QB from 1993-96, but a shoulder injury prematurely ended his career.
He joined Lloyd Carr's staff in 1996 as a student aid which began this long journey to the NovaCare Complex. We trust Philly's leadership, so if they say this is the guy, we're all in. It will be intriguing to see Jalen Hurts improve under his watch.
