Eagles' 'real interest' in Myles Garrett trade only growing louder

Oh, really?

As the Philadelphia Eagles were getting ready to ultimately win Super Bowl 59, a fun and somewhat silly trade idea started to get thrown around by fans. Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett requested a trade, and of course, hypotheticals became an immediate pastime.

At first, the rumors were just, well, mostly rumors. Even when an NFL insider like Jeremy Fowler connected the Eagles to Garrett, it didn't seem that plausible a deal would actually get done.

But then, more and more continued to be added to the story. From the Browns' and Garrett's perspective, things seemed to get more and more difficult. So, Garrett requested a trade. Big deal, right?

The Browns came out and said they were open to giving Garrett a new contract extension and would likely make him the highest-paid defensive player in the league. That should keep him around, shouldn't it?

Not so fast. Garrett is reportedly not open to a deal with the Browns. He wants to win. His desire for a trade is legitimate.

Little by little, pieces to the puzzle started adding up. And little by little, the idea of Garrett in Philadelphia started to seem like a possibility. But, one question remains: are the Eagles actually interested in a Garrett trade?

One NFL insider confirmed the Eagles have "real interest" in a Myles Garrett trade

As The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported, the Eagles have "real" interest in Garrett. This isn't just some fan-created pipe dream coming from Radio Row fodder before Super Bowl 59.

The interest is indeed "real," according to Russini.

Count this as being more than just a rumor, at this point. It seems that the only thing left to happen is for the Browns to finally cave and entertain a Garrett trade.

If they do so, then look for the Eagles to be involved. Last year, Howie Roseman's big splash was on offense with Saquon Barkley. This year, it could be an even bigger splash and on the other side of the ball by acquiring Garrett.

Sure, the caveat is that Cleveland ends up seeing their general manager, Andrew Berry, back off his stance and start talking trade scenarios. That's a huge wall needing to come down.

But, in this situation, it truly does not feel as though Garrett will back down from his stance either. And, the Browns have already made one massive mistake in recent years with the Deshaun Watson deal. This could be a way to recoup some lost draft capital and start building something for future years.
