Eagles' ugly end to Week 5 loss shouldn't have Jalen Hurts biting his tongue

The man isn't sharing his thoughts.

This Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London brought a whole new level of frustration to the Philadelphia Eagles fan base, but they won't hear that from their franchise quarterback, Jalen Hurts.

The talk of the game was the Eagles' horrible clock management on the final offensive drive, which left too much time for the Jaguars. It didn't help when Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni chose to kick off in the field of play, and Jacksonville got a good enough return to set up a game-winning field goal with no time left.

After the game, Sirianni took all the blame for the decision, which won't make anyone feel better, but at least he is taking accountability. As for Hurts, he said little about the game, but his words said a lot more than he thought.

Jalen Hurts tried to not say anything, but Eagles fans know what he is thinking

During Hurts' press conference, he was asked about the Eagles' handling of the final 25 seconds of the game. It was clear he wouldn't say much.

"It's not my place, and we're prepared," Hurts said via The Athletic's Zach Berman. "I'm prepared as a quarterback to not worry about those things. I'm honoring the play call, honoring the things that are coming in the game. When I'm up at night, yeah, I think, man, should have I said something or should I have took a step back and said, wait. But ultimately, there's a commitment to that and going out there and executing. So this was one where it did not work in our favor."

Hurts finished the game by completing 21 of 40 passes for 220 yards and one touchdown. He added just two rushing yards on two carries.

With the Eagles on a three-game losing streak and falling further behind in the NFC East and the playoff picture, Philly is in a bad spot. The fan base is in mass panic mode because the team is doing so badly right now. If Hurts felt the same way, no one would even know it.

"I can't give any promises on anything. Honestly, my words don't really mean anything. It's about what we go out there and do. For me, I'm trying my best to figure it out, and we just need to maintain that commitment to figuring it out because obviously we're a few plays away from being 4-1 here, so got to grow."

It's time for Jalen Hurts to start calling people out within the Eagles organization

This has been one of the biggest frustrations with Hurts, and it even dates back to last year. He doesn't want to speak out too much about the team's problem and tries to take the high road.

Over the last few weeks, though, Hurts' demeanor at these press conferences has changed noticeably. He usually offers some words of wisdom. Hurts looks defeated, unsure what to say about the situation.

As the franchise leader, it's time for Hurts to stand up for himself and get this team rolling. He was much more vocal on the sidelines, rallying the troops against the Jaguars than he ever has before.

It's clear he is frustrated and over the BS with the coaching. That's three straight losses where coaching has been a major problem, and it's coming from Sirianni and offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.

Hurts needs a coming-to-Jesus meeting with the team's top leaders because this isn't working. He wasn't great in this game, but he came up clutch, as he always does on the final drive. Without three Week 1 starters on the offensive line, two wide receivers, and the top three running backs, Hurts somehow got this team into a position to win.

Hurts already faces considerable pressure to play well in 2026 after the backlash this past offseason over how he played in 2025. He's clearly frustrated, so he needs to step up and do something about it and be the voice of the players he needs to be. It's time for him to stop holding back and be the guy who told Chris Jones last year, against the Kansas City Chiefs, to shut his *** up.
