Eagles with the most to gain following a wave of moves in free agency

Philly's roster has been shuffled, and with that, doors and windows are cracked for some of the young Eagles.

So, let's do some inventory. Slay and James Bradberry were released. Dallas Goedert and Bryce Huff are on the trade block. The Philadelphia Eagles said goodbye to some of the important cogs of last season's Super Bowl-winning roster. We tell you what. If Philly isn't awarded at least four compensatory picks next offseason, there needs to be some sort of formal investigation.

Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, Isaiah Rodgers, Mekhi Becton, Kenneth Gainwell, and Oren Burks have all been lost via free agency thanks to their decisions to sign with other franchises. Kenny Pickett and C.J. Gardner-Johnson were traded away. Many of the important cogs will stay home, Zack Baun for instance. This team will also look very different in many areas.

You know what that means though. Cue the 'next man up' hashtags. Change represents an amazing opportunity for some young Birds to blossom and soar.

Cornerbacks Kelee Ringo and Eli Ricks

As much as we love our Georgia Dawgs, we love our 'Philly Tide' just as much. Eli Ricks is a member of the latter along with Tyler Steen, Byron Young, Cameron Latu, Eli Ricks, Landon Dickerson, and, of course, DeVonta Smith!

It isn't often that Bama and UGA agree with one another, but Eli Ricks and Kelee Ringo find themselves in similar situations. They both hope to find their way into starting roles like the some of the other members of the Philly Dawgs and Philly Tide have done.

James Bradberry and Slay were released. Avonte Maddox and Isaiah Rodgers left by way of free agency. The door is cracked. It's up to them to walk through and seize their opportunities.

Guard Tyler Steen

Thanks to Mekhi Becton's exit, when Week 1 of the 2025-26 regular season begins, the Eagles will field a different starter at right guard for the sixth consecutive season. There are some internal options for filling the job. Trevor Keegan has a chance to be special. Philly can also look for depth during the draft, but how about Tyler Steen? Could he win the job?

If you remember, that was Philly's plan for him last season.

EDGE Josh Uche

Brandon Graham hasn't retired yet, but that's believed to be what he'll decide. Josh Sweat is gone, and to no one's surprise, Bryce Huff is being dangled as trade bait. Philly added a pass rusher during free agency, and thanks to a low-risk, high-reward signing in the form of Josh Uche.

Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt are both uber-talented, but that doesn't mean they're ready to catapult themselves to an All-Pro level. We hope they do, but Phily would be wise to add to the rotation at edge rusher.

We hope they exhaust their first pick in the NFL Draft on one, but even if they do, Uche has a huge opportunity. Can he make good on it like Zack Baun and Mekhi Becton did?

Tight End Grant Calcaterra

You can check our time stamps. We doubt that anyone has shown more love to Grant Calcaterra than we have. We' have always been supportive. He even teamed with Jalen Hurts at Oklahoma for a spell, so we knew if he was past the head injuries, he could do work.

Few new-school tight ends share Dallas Goedert's blend of blocking, receiving, and running after the catch. If this is it for Dallas in an Eagles uniform, we sincerely hope that Grant is hitting a blocking sled somewhere!

Safety Sydney Brown

Sydney Brown's 99-yard pick-six vs. the Arizona Cardinals during his rookie season remains one of the top highlights of his young tenure in Philadelphia. Sadly, the Eagles lost that game, or it would have been remembered even more fondly.

Then, adversity struck. He tore his ACL in Week 18 of that year and ended his season. He worked his butt off and returned in Year 2, coincidentally in Week 7 at the same venue he was injured in (MetLife Stadium) and against the same team.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson was the man starting beside Reed Blankenship now, but he's gone. The Birds traded him to the Houston Texans, and both sides swapped picks.

Sydney is back in the spotlight. His coaches and teammates love him. He'll have an opportunity to win a starting job in training camp.
