And, we're off. As expected, the Philadelphia Eagles were relatively quiet as we navigated day one of legal tampering. The exodus came. Josh Sweat is headed to the Arizona Cardinals. Milton Williams cashed in. He's headed to the New England Patriots to earn about $26 million per season. Isaiah Rodgers was even given 'the bag' if you will, cashing in with the Minnesota Vikings for $7.5 million per season over the next two NFL campaigns.
News came of a trade. Kenny Pickett is no longer with us. He's been swapped with the Cleveland Browns for Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a 2025 fifth-round draft choice.
The new league year begins on March 12 at 4 p.m. EST. All these deals become official then. Philly isn't done though. They have executed a trade.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson leaves the nest by way of trade. Cue the Sydney Brown hype reels.
This also won't be official until the 2025 NFL year begins, but Philly has announced another trade. According to multiple sources including Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, they're sending C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans for a former first-rounder and an exchange of draft capital.
The Birds get a former first-rounder, guard Kenyon Green and a 2026 fifth-round draft choice. The Texans land C.J. G.J. and a fifth-rounder in 2026.
This doesn't close the door on the possibility of Mekhi Becton being extended. It does, however, add some depth to the Birds' offensive line. It also opens the door for Sydney Brown. Cue those hype reels.
A third-round selection during the 2023 NFL Draft, Brown's rookie season ended with a torn ACL. He appeared in 11 games last season, mostly on special teams. He played 205 snaps on Michael Clay's unit.
Another 79 snaps on defense led to seven tackles on the season. He also collected an interception, two pass breakups, and a forced fumble.
