The Philadelphia Eagles knew this offseason needed to be one of change, and that’s exactly what it has been. It started with the team going in a different direction for the offensive staff, and continued with all of the new pass catchers added to the roster. Of course, the cloud over all of this is the seemingly inevitable AJ Brown trade, but Philly is still headed in the right direction.
That was evident in ESPN’s post-draft power rankings, where teams were also praised for their most improved position. The Eagles were ranked fifth on the list, which is three spots higher than their previous ranking. As far as the most improved position, the tight end group was highlighted.
Eagles rise in ESPN power rankings thanks to tight end improvement
Philadelphia reporter Tim McManus acknowledged that most of the team’s action has been at wide receiver, adding four newcomers to the room. However, McManus believes it was what happened at tight end that is the biggest improvement. Adding three new tight ends, and bringing back a fourth, McManus believes Philadelphia now has a talented tight end room with a lot of versatility.
"At tight end, meanwhile, Philly selected Eli Stowers in the second round and inked Johnny Mundt and Stone Smartt to one-year contracts. Add the re-signing of Dallas Goedert and the Eagles have built out a talented tight ends room with more diverse skill sets than a year ago."Tim McManus (ESPN)
Between the three new tight ends and four new wide receivers, it’s no secret that the Eagles' offense will look different based on the players on the field. The plays will also probably look different since Sean Mannion is now the offensive coordinator running the show. Ultimately, that should be a good thing, because an inconsistent offense was one of the team's biggest issues in 2026.
Jalen Hurts is still the team’s quarterback, DeVonta Smith will elevate to WR1 once AJ Brown is officially moved, and Saquon Barkley will still be the focal point of the offense. Many of the other contributing skill positions will be different, though, and only time will tell if the new faces can make a difference.

If the new players can actually lead to improvement, the offense’s success will then depend on the offensive line. The dominant group took a step back in 2025, but the hope is that the many changes will lead to an improved performance from the offensive line as well. If the entire offense can get back on track, the Eagles should return to being serious contenders.
