The Philadelphia Eagles aren't going to be super active early on in the offseason, as they will be focused more on bringing back players on reserve/future contracts for the 2026 season.
They are bringing back a member of the 2025 roster as they announced the signing of cornerback Ambry Thomas. Before the season began, Thomas was signed to the practice squad and spent the season there.
Thomas is a veteran in the NFL, having been a third-round selection of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was played on four different teams in that span, racking up 79 tackles, 12 pass deflections, two interceptions, one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 42 games, all in San Francisco.
This could be the end of the line for Ambry Thomas
For Thomas, this is a big offseason, with 2026 being a massive year for him. It might be a make-or-break for the veteran as he tries to make an NFL roster for the first time since 2023.
The good news is that Thomas will have a shot at the cornerback position, as it will be wide open at the bottom of the depth chart. Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean are the top guys at the position. Rookie Mac McWilliams should be able to find a roster spot, and Kelee Ringo, while he struggled at CB2, is a stellar special teams player.
Philly could end up bringing in someone to replace Adoree' Jackson at CB2. Where Thomas could compete is what the Eagles do with Jakorian Bennett, as he enters the final year of his rookie contract. Bennett originally signed with the Las Vegas Raiders, as did Michael Carter III, who has two years left on his deal with the New York Jets before being part of a midseason trade.
Bennett was expected to compete for that CB2 job when they traded for him in the preseason, but an injury affected that, as well as poor play with his one shot at it. Carter is more of a nickel corner, and it is unknown whether he will have a role with the Eagles.

This is certainly not going to be easy for Thomas, as he will have more competition than that at cornerback, but if he doesn't step up and stand out against the rest, this might be the last time he plays in the NFL.
