Everyone is giving their two cents on what the Philadelphia Eagles should be doing with their offensive coordinator opening.
Many want the Eagles to find a coach who will stick around for more than one season to help develop quarterback Jalen Hurts. Former Eagles defensive lineman Chris Long spoke on the Rich Eisen Show, where Eisen asked him for advice on how the Eagles should handle the hiring.
"They need to hire a cheat code offensive coordinator, okay?" Long said. "We talk aboutt his thing a lot like bring somebody out of retirement or find somebody whose aged out or find yourself a Dennis Allen. Because you have one on defense, and his name is Vic Fangio. He's not getting a head coaching job, and he doesn't want one, I don't think. Find a Josh McDaniels. I know it's easier said than done."
Is Chris Long right on the Eagles doing that?
Long continued by explaining that he wants someone who will help Hurts have "familiarity year in and year out." He is pushing for the Eagles to move to a more West Coast offensive style that'll keep them more under center, add play-action calls, and use motions to add creativity to the offense.
One other note Long made was to make sure Hurts is bought into the changes, after reports came out in the middle of the season that he was unwilling to run QB-designed runs. Long said that if Hurts is not open to it, the Eagles have to push him to get out of his comfort zone.
All Eagles fans would love to find a Vic Fangio-type for the offense, but that might be hard to find in this coaching search. The big names, like Brian Daboll, are more like one-year rentals, with head-coaching options out there.
Philly does need an offensive coordinator who will not be afraid to get Hurts out of his comfort zone and run the plays they want to. Kellen Moore was that guy in 2024, and that turned into a Super Bowl title, so the Eagles would be wise to find a coach who can do the exact same thing.

With head coaching jobs being filled more quickly now, the Eagles might be close to losing out on top candidates if they don't get the top guys. Maybe an outside-the-box approach might help put them in a better position for the future.
