The depth on this Philadelphia Eagles roster might be better than any in the NFL, despite some potential issues at safety.
One position that has done well in the offseason is at edge rusher. There were some concerns at the beginning about Jaelan Phillips bolting in free agency, but the Eagles ended up trading for Jonathan Greenard during the draft, which helped.
Philly also signed Arnold Ebiketie and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka in free agency to add depth, as well as the Eagles selecting Keyshawn James-Newby in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft. One of those guys, though, does not have a strong chance of making the 53-man roster.
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is in grave danger of not making the Eagles' roster
Tryon-Shoyinka was a former first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the year after they won the Super Bowl. Things looked good at the beginning as he had 13 sacks in the first three seasons, which weren't great numbers, but they were solid enough.
The 2024 season was when things started going off the rails for Tryon-Shoyinka: he had just two sacks in 15 games, his playing time dropped to the point that his fifth-year option wasn't picked up, and he became a free agent. Last season, he played for the Cleveland Browns before the Chicago Bears traded for him, finishing the year with 22 tackles and two quarterback hits, but was shutout of a sack for the first time in his career.
Philly is deep at edge rusher, and there's a chance the Eagles could add more to the position before the season begins. Greenard, Nolan Smith, and Jalyx Hunt will be the main guys in the rotation, with Ebiketie most likely getting in there as well.

There is not much room for Tryon-Shoyinka to make the roster, so he has to have a breakout preseason performance for him to be in a good spot. Otherwise, this might be the final stop in his NFL career.
