Still feeling the loss of Jaelan Phillips from free agency, the Philadelphia Eagles have been working hard on finding his replacement.
They have already signed former Atlanta Falcons edge rusher Arnold Ebiketie, who will be a rotational player, but probably not a starter. That meant the Eagles needed to continue to find the right replacement for Phillips. Their next signing won't get the job done either.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman told reporters at the league meetings in Phoenix, Arizona, that they are going to sign defensive end Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. Last season, Tryon-Shoyinka started the season on the Cleveland Browns before being traded to the Chicago Bears, racking up 22 tackles, two quarterback hits, and one tackle for loss in 16 games.
Eagles are signing Joe Tryon-Shoyinka to a new contract
Tryon-Shoyinka isn't exactly the kind of talent who can fill in as a proper starter for the Eagles, despite 45 career starts over five seasons. The most sacks Tryon-Shoyinka has had in a season is five, and he has only had two in the last two years.
In terms of a depth move, this was a good one as the Eagles get some much-needed help after losing guys like Joshua Uche and Azeez Ojulari. To say that Tryon-Shoyinka is going to replace Phillips is a massive stretch.
There are still options to find the right starting edge rusher on this Eagles team, but time is running out. Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Jonathan Greenard still appears to be one of the best options for Philly, as they can easily get rid of a Day 2 pick to acquire him.

Roseman has to try to get something done as the Eagles need a better player than Tryon-Shoyinka as a starter despite the fact that he will make for a good special teams player and rotational guy,
