This offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles have been specifically focused on wide receiver A.J. Brown and whether he will be traded.
The latest reports from Eagles reporter Derrick Gunn and ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter have leaned more towards Brown staying on the team for the 2026 season. While speaking about the Brown situation and whether the Eagles can fix their offensive woes from 2025 on, FOX Sports' First Things First, former NFL player Willie Colon made sure one man took all the blame and assigned none to Brown.
"Behind the curtain, the Eagles realize that it's not an A.J. Brown problem, they may have a Jalen Hurts problem, and that's the biggest problem. You invested that money to the quarterback and A.J. Brown, by the way, you know what hasn't been inconsistent? His complaining, his story, and why he wants the ball. Alright? Like he has been consistent. I'm open on third down, when it is one-on-one on the outside, I should be your guy, when there's a hot coming, and the sight read, I should be the guy and when you turn on the tape, he is not wrong. The problem is when you continue to look at this Eagles offense, they look stagnant and stale when you need it the most, and they're predictable because they can't win on first and second down. They can't run the ball because of the ailments on the offensive line, and when you talk about what Jalen Hurts hasn't been able to do is elevate the offense when you know there's issues, right?"
"A.J. Brown is like, 'Man, I'm here to be the difference maker. I'm not getting the ball. I can't throw myself the ball.' It has to start with him. This is now the second year that A.J. Brown has been a problem from an emotional standpoint and a distraction point. Yeah, you know you want him because of what he's capable of. You know the type of dawg he is, but at the quarterback position, you're going into the season, you're going to have to ask Jalen Hurts, 'Man, are you making us better?' Because right now, last year wasn't hit."
Willie Colon blames Jalen Hurts for everything wrong with 2025 offense
Everyone understands at this point that Hurts has his limitations at quarterback, but to say Brown isn't the problem is way off base. Colon must have missed the NFC Wild Card game against the San Francisco 49ers when Brown had two critical drops and slowed down on another route after begging to get the ball all season.
Brown shouldn't get all the blame, but Hurts doesn't nearly deserve it either. Former Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and head coach Nick Sirianni must take most of the blame for the problems of 2025. Patullo kept calling hitch routes for Brown, so he wasn't able to get open, so we're all trying to understand what Colon means by Brown is "always open."
The Eagles had several problems on the offensive line, with Lane Johnson missing the last eight games of the season. It was clear as day that Cam Jurgens and Landon Dickerson were banged up all year and never fully recovered, causing Dickerson to now consider retirement at 27.

Yes, Hurts is the quarterback and has to elevate his play, but there are way more issues than just the quarterback, so Colon should go back and really watch the tape to see what else is the problem.
