There are so many curious Philadelphia Eagles fans regarding what kind of season wide receiver DeVonta Smith will have as he is set to be WR1 for the first time since his rookie season in 2021.
The Eagles traded away A.J. Brown after four years of being with the franchise, leaving the WR1 role for Smith to fill. Former Eagles wide receiver Irving Fryar was asked on 94 WIP about Smith and made a bold prediction for the 2026 season.
“DeVonta Smith will have more touchdowns, more catches, and more yards than A.J. Brown."
Will DeVonta Smith have a better season than A.J. Brown in 2026?
Let's be honest, Smith already did this last season with the Brown. Smith had 1,008 yards in 2025, leading the Eagles in receiving yards, while Brown had 1,003 yards. Now, Brown had Smith beat on touchdowns with the newest New England Patriot having seven to Smith's four.
This season feels like it will be slightly different since Smith is the main guy and has the ability to put up some big numbers. While the Eagles are loaded at receiver with rookie Makai Lemon, Hollywood Brown, and Dontayvion Wicks, Smith will still be Jalen Hurts' number one guy and feed him the ball often.
Brown will also be the Patriots' number one receiver, but Drake Maye is the type of quarterback who will spread the ball around. With Romeo Doubs also there in New England, it feels as though Brown could have good numbers, but not reach where Smith can be.

Smith has been patient and now will be rewarded with a chance to be the man in Philly while Brown will also get his wish with being the main target as well. The "breakout" season seems very likely for Smith as he's got a chance to prove to the NFL that he should be in the conversation for top-10 wide receiver in the NFL.
